November 2018 - Airstream Maintenance with DJFinding a reliable and trustworthy Airstream service is like finding gold! It’s a valuable resource and worth sharing the experience and benefits with your Airstreaming friends. For us Central Virginia Airstreamers we are very lucky indeed to have the recent startup Broken Rivets RV Service available to repair, modify and enhance their Living the Dream camper trailers.Faced with perplexing roof leaks I entrusted my Flying Cloud 25 to DJ who located loose and corroded air conditioner bolts and recently West Coast dealer applied sealant around the Fantastic Fan which was not adhering to the coach roof. Another project I asked DJ to create was the addition of two 6 inch diameter eight foot long double ended storage tubes under the rear of the Airstream to replace the short four foot original factory tube. DJ painted the tubes caps in black and fitted screw caps on all four ends with wire safety straps and used stainless steel strap to secure it to the underbelly. Now I have secure and weatherproof storage for my fishing rods, flag masts, Wi-Fi and Cell booster masts and for my amateur radio antennas, diamond willow hiking poles and whatever other spindly long thin object we acquire! Extensive furnace service was very much needed after our muddy unpaved road adventure to Alaska and this was handled expertly along with the install of SoftStart on our Dometic AC unit. When we returned to collect our Airstream I was delighted to discover that DJ had gone through the interior and replaced all my missing rivets! He also gave the camper a overall clean and made it look like new especially since the hurricane Michael had done a good job of shredding the leaves around his workshop! Lastly he asked me if there was anything else he could have done to make this an even better and more satisfactory service experience! The answer was an emphatic no! Unit 109 President Randy Rinehart has organized a couple of successful workshops featuring DJ on the topic of how to take care of your Airstream! WBAC members from all four Virginia units have been invited to participate! DJ Mastin can be reached at (804) 994-1405 and by text at the same number or by email at brokenrivetllc@gmail.com. He does offer service at your location within a hundred miles of Ruther Glen (see map) and of course you can call to schedule dropping off your rig at his workshop. Even if we love the challenge of doing our own Airstream modifications and tweaks, there comes a point and in particular certain kinds of projects when it is just simpler and safer to let a qualified technician take care of your needs! For Virginia Airstreamers, DJ at Broken Rivets RV offers the services we can depend on and trust and I am delighted to recommend his business!
